Stephenson County State's Attorney

The State's Attorney's Office exists primarily to represent the citizens of Stephenson County and the victims of crime. We handle felony, misdemeanor and traffic cases, as well as juvenile court matters, child support enforcement, paternity suits and mental health hearings. The state's attorney is legal advisor and counselor for all county officials and chief prosecuting officer of the county.

If someone feels that he/she is the victim of a crime (as opposed to a civil matter) it should be reported to the police for investigation. An assistant’s state’s attorney will get involved in the matter after the investigation is complete. There are no fees for any services of the State's Attorney's Office. Our primary responsibilities are
